A Morning Prayer to Be Salt and Light Today

Lord Jesus, You looked at ordinary people
and said, You are the salt of the earth.
You are the light of the world.
Not someday, but already.

So today, let me be salt.
A little goes a long way.
Let me bring out the good in a conversation,
add some kindness where things have gone bland or bitter,
and help keep what is good from spoiling.

And let me be light.
Not glaring, not preaching,
just steady, like a lamp on a stand
that helps everyone in the house to see.

If anyone notices something good in me today,
let them look past me
and give the praise to my Father in heaven.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this before you go out to the shops, to work, or to a gathering with neighbors. It is a quiet way to remember that ordinary places are where your faith will be seen.

A Verse to Hold On To

"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." — Matthew 5:16 (BSB)
