A Morning Prayer for a Humble Heart
Jesus, You knelt with a towel and a basin
and washed Your friends' dusty feet.
You, the Lord of all,
did the work of a servant.I confess I like to be noticed.
I like to be right, and to be thanked,
and to have the last word.Take the need for credit out of me today.
Let me do good quietly and leave it with You.
Let me admit when I am wrong,
and ask for help without embarrassment.
Let me listen to people
I think have nothing to teach me.Give me the freedom of a humble heart:
nothing to prove, nothing to protect,
just walking with You.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this first thing in the morning, before the day gives you chances to be noticed or to be proud. It also helps just before you walk into a meeting or a family gathering, where old habits tend to show up.
A Verse to Hold On To
"And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" — Micah 6:8 (BSB)
