A Morning Prayer for the Fruit of Gentleness

Jesus, You never broke a bruised reed
or snuffed out a flickering wick.
You were gentle with the weak,
and they ran to You.

I can be rough without meaning to.
A sharp tone, a heavy sigh,
a rush that leaves people feeling in the way.

Holy Spirit, make me gentle today.
A soft answer when I'd rather snap.
Careful hands with anyone frail or hurting.
A slower pace for those who can't keep up.

And let me be gentle with myself as well,
the way You are gentle with me
when I fall short again.

Let people feel safe with me today,
the way I feel safe with You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this before you face the people in your home, or before a visit where you know patience will be needed. If you tend to be hard on yourself, pray the lines about yourself slowly, and let them be meant for you.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Let your gentleness be apparent to all. The Lord is near." — Philippians 4:5 (BSB)
