Healing Scriptures: Bible Verses About Healing and Restoration
For generations, people facing illness have read these verses aloud — over hospital beds, in waiting rooms, and in quiet prayer at home. They are grouped by theme, each one ready to copy into a card or a message for someone who is unwell.
The God Who Heals
"Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my praise." — Jeremiah 17:14 (BSB)
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3 (BSB)
"If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God… I am the LORD who heals you." — Exodus 15:26 (BSB)
"O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me." — Psalm 30:2 (BSB)
Promises of Restoration
"But I will restore your health and heal your wounds, declares the LORD." — Jeremiah 30:17 (BSB)
"The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness." — Psalm 41:3 (BSB)
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His kind deeds— He who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit and crowns you with loving devotion and compassion" — Psalm 103:2–4 (BSB)
"But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall." — Malachi 4:2 (BSB)
"Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard." — Isaiah 58:8 (BSB)
Healing in Christ
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
"He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. ‘By His stripes you are healed.'" — 1 Peter 2:24 (BSB)
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
"Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." — James 5:14–15 (BSB)
Health for Body and Soul
"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." — 3 John 1:2 (KJV)
"A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." — Proverbs 17:22 (BSB)
How to Use These Verses
Read one slowly, out loud if you can — these verses were written to be spoken. Jeremiah 17:14 works as a prayer in itself; Psalm 41:3 is the one to send to someone in a hospital bed. Scripture and medicine are not rivals: pray these verses and keep the appointments, and thank God for the doctors and nurses through whom much healing comes. Pray them alongside a prayer for healing, a prayer for recovery, or a healing prayer for a friend.
The verses on this page are from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB) and the King James Version (KJV) — both in the public domain, so you may reprint and share them freely.
