A Prayer for a Sick Child

Father, this is my child. You already know — You knit this little one together, You counted every hair, You were there before the first breath. But I need to say it, because my heart is full: this is my child, and my child is sick.

Be close to this small body tonight. Cool the fever. Ease the hurting. Quiet the cough. Give the deep, easy sleep that mends, and let the morning come with brighter eyes.

Gentle Shepherd, You gather the lambs in Your arms. Gather mine. Carry my child close to Your heart through every hour I cannot fix and cannot hurry.

Bless the doctors and nurses who help us. Give them wisdom for their decisions, skill for their hands, and kindness for their tired moments. Thank You for medicine, for checkups, for every good tool You've given them.

And Lord, hold me too. A parent's heart wears thin at a bedside. When I feel helpless, remind me that watching and praying is not nothing — it is love, standing guard.

I place my child in Your hands, the same hands that made the stars and still bend low for the little ones. There is no safer place.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this beside the bed while your child sleeps, in the waiting room, or in the hallway when you need a moment to breathe. You can rest your hand gently on your child and pray it aloud — children are comforted by a parent's calm voice, even before they understand the words.

A Verse to Hold On To

"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom." — Isaiah 40:11 (KJV)
