Bible Verses About Anxiety and Worry
Anxiety is not a modern invention — the Psalms are full of racing thoughts and sleepless nights. These are the verses people return to when worry will not quiet down, grouped by theme and ready to save or send.
Give Your Worries to God
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:6–7 (BSB)
"Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7 (BSB)
"When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul." — Psalm 94:19 (BSB)
"Anxiety weighs down the heart of a man, but a good word cheers it up." — Proverbs 12:25 (BSB)
Do Not Worry About Tomorrow
"Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" — Matthew 6:26 (BSB)
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34 (BSB)
"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest?" — Luke 12:25–26 (BSB)
Peace Instead of Fear
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." — John 14:27 (KJV)
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." — Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
"Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you." — 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (BSB)
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful." — Colossians 3:15 (BSB)
"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth." — Psalm 46:10 (BSB)
When Fear Rises
"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You." — Psalm 56:3 (BSB)
"I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears." — Psalm 34:4 (BSB)
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name." — Psalm 23:1–3 (BSB)
How to Use These Verses
When your mind is racing, don't try to read them all — choose one short verse (Psalm 56:3 is six words) and repeat it slowly as a breath prayer. Philippians 4:6–7 pairs naturally with a prayer for anxiety or a prayer to calm an anxious mind; for sudden panic there is a short prayer for panic moments. Scripture is a comfort, not a treatment plan — if anxiety is crowding out daily life, talking to a doctor or counselor is a faithful step, not a faithless one.
