A Morning Prayer for the Fruit of Love

Father, I'll admit it.
My love runs out.
It flows easily toward the people who are easy
and dries up around the ones who are not.

I can't squeeze more love out of myself by trying harder.
Fruit doesn't grow that way.
It grows from the root.

So pour Your love into me this morning
through Your Holy Spirit,
the same love that found me
when I was not very lovable.
Let it soak down into the dry places.

You know the person I find hardest to love.
I won't name them here, but You know.
Give me one loving thought toward them today,
and one loving act, if the chance comes.
Grow the rest in Your time.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a morning when you know you will see someone you find hard to love. Say it slowly, and when you reach the lines about that person, simply hold their face in mind. You don't need to say their name.
