A Morning Prayer for the Fruit of Goodness

Good Shepherd, Your goodness has followed me all my life.
I've seen it behind me again and again,
even on roads I chose badly.

Today, let some goodness grow in me too.
Not the kind that wants to be seen,
but the kind that stays the same
whether anyone is watching or not.

Let me be honest in small things,
and give back the extra change.
Let me do the right thing
even if no one would ever know.
Let me do good on purpose,
not only when it's convenient.

I'm not good on my own, Lord.
But Your Spirit can grow good fruit
in very ordinary ground.
Grow it in me.

Pray this first thing, before the day gives you any chances to cut a corner. It suits a morning when you will be on your own, with no one checking your work.
