An Evening Prayer for Finding Rest in God Alone

Rest in God alone, O my soul.

Lord, I reach for so many things at night,
hoping they will settle me.
One more program on the television.
One more scroll on the phone.
One more headline from the news.
Something sweet from the kitchen,
or something in a glass.

Some of these are gifts, and I enjoy them.
But none of them can give my soul rest.

You alone are my rock.
You alone can reach the deep place in me
that nothing else can touch.

So I put them down for a while
and come to You with empty hands.
Be my rest, Lord.
Be enough for me tonight.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you notice you are reaching for the remote or the phone just to feel settled. Put it down, say the prayer, and sit quietly for a few minutes before bed.

A Verse to Hold On To
