A Morning Prayer for Courage to Do What Is Right
God of Esther and Daniel,
You gave courage to ordinary people
at the very moment they needed it.
I need some today. Not for anything grand.
For the small brave things that are easy to skip:
speaking up when someone is being mocked,
telling the truth when a lie would be smoother,
saying no when everyone expects a yes,
standing by a friend when it costs me something.Maybe there is a conversation I've been avoiding,
or a kindness that might be misunderstood,
or something new You are asking me to try.
When my nerve fails, remind me
that You never send me anywhere alone.Make me brave enough to do what is right,
and humble enough to do it kindly. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this on a morning when you already know something hard is coming: a conversation, a decision, a moment when you will have to speak up. Say it before you leave the house, and again in the car or at your desk if your nerve wavers. It is also a good prayer for a young person heading off to school.
A Verse to Hold On To
"On the day I called, You answered me; You emboldened me and strengthened my soul." — Psalm 138:3 (BSB)
