A Morning Prayer for a Heavy Heart

Why are you so heavy, my soul,
before the day has even started?

Lord, I woke up with a weight on my heart.
Sometimes I know where it comes from,
and sometimes I don't.
Either way, You see it.

I won't pretend this morning.
You never asked me to.
David poured out his sadness to You,
and You kept his words for us to pray.
So here is mine.

I don't need to feel better right away.
I just need to know You are near.
Hold me up through this day.
Give me enough strength for the next hour,
and someone kind to talk to, if I need it.

My hope is still in You.
I will praise You again.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you wake with a weight on you, while you are still in bed or at the kitchen table with your first cup. You don't need to know why your heart is heavy. If the heaviness stays for weeks, tell a doctor or someone you trust as well.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God." — Psalm 42:11 (BSB)
