An Evening Prayer to the God Who Surrounds Me (Psalm 125)

As the mountains stand around Jerusalem,
so You stand around Your people, Lord.

Tonight I picture that.
You before me and You behind me.
You on my right and on my left.
You above me, and beneath me as I sleep.
There is no side of this bed You are not on.

Your word says those who trust in You
are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved.
I don't always feel like a mountain.
Some days I feel more like a leaf in the wind.
But my steadiness doesn't come from me.
It comes from being surrounded by You.

So keep me tonight, held on every side.
Whatever comes near me in the dark
will find You there first.
And in the morning, let me rise
still standing, still Yours.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this in bed, in the last few minutes before sleep. As you pray, picture the mountains standing round about, and God close on every side of you. It helps most on nights when you feel small, shaky or alone.

A Verse to Hold On To

"As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, both now and forevermore." — Psalm 125:2 (BSB)
