A Morning Prayer for the Holy Spirit's Leading

Holy Spirit, You were here before I woke.
You are nearer to me than my own breath.
Lead me through this day.

I don't expect a voice from the sky.
But You nudge me, and I often miss it.
A name that comes to mind for no reason.
A sudden wish to say something kind.
A check in my heart before I speak too quickly.

Make me quick to notice
and quicker to follow.
If You prompt me to call someone, let me call.
If You hold me back, let me be still.
If You open a door, give me courage to walk through it.

I want to keep in step with You today,
not running ahead, and not lagging behind.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the start of the day, before you look at your plans. It also helps at the moment you feel unsure what to do next; stop, say a few lines of it, and listen.

A Verse to Hold On To
