A Morning Prayer Remembering How Far God Has Brought Me

Before I look ahead today, Lord,
let me look back for a moment.

Samuel once set up a stone and said,
Thus far the Lord has helped us.
I have places like that in my life.
The days I didn't think I'd get through.
The nights I lay awake and worried.
The changes I never would have chosen.
The prayer I thought You hadn't heard.

You were there in every one.
Sometimes I only saw it later,
looking back, the way I am now.

So this morning I set up a stone of my own
and write two words on it: thank You.
You have helped me all the way to here.
I can trust You with the road ahead.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a birthday, at the start of a new year, or on any morning when something uncertain lies ahead. Before you begin, think of one hard place God has brought you through. Then pray the words slowly, and say thank You for that one first.
