A Morning Prayer of Praise at Sunrise

Glory to You, Maker of the morning.

The light is coming over the edge of the world.
All night it has been traveling toward me,
over oceans and cities and quiet farms,
waking people in a hundred languages
who rose and praised You before me.
Now the light has reached my window,
and it is my turn.

I praise You for the color in the sky,
for the first birds, for the cool fresh air.
I praise You that You never tire,
never sleep, never grow old.
You have kept every sunrise on time
since the very first one.

Let my life be one more voice in that song today.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the window as the sun comes up, or on the porch with your first cup of tea or coffee. If you wake before sunrise, pray it as the sky begins to lighten. It is short enough to pray before the kettle boils.

A Verse to Hold On To

"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised." — Psalm 113:3 (KJV)
