A Morning Prayer of Wonder at Creation

Creator God, open my eyes this morning.

Let me look at one thing You made
long enough to be amazed by it.
A spider's web hung with dew.
The bark of an old tree.
A sparrow hopping by the step,
which You feed, and which You see.
The lines on the palm of my own hand.

You did not have to make the world beautiful.
It could have been plain and useful.
Instead You filled it with color and song,
with a thousand kinds of leaves,
and called it very good.

Forgive me for walking past it all.
Today, slow me down enough to wonder,
and let my wonder turn into praise.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a morning walk, in the garden, or at a window. Choose one small thing you can see, such as a leaf, a bird or the light on the wall, and look at it as you pray. Let the looking be part of the prayer.

A Verse to Hold On To

"And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good." — Genesis 1:31 (BSB)
