An Evening Prayer of Thanks That Today Was Enough

Father, Jesus taught me to ask
for bread for today, not for the whole year.
Tonight I can say it: You gave it.

There was enough strength for today,
though not a drop to spare.
There was enough patience, mostly.
There was enough to eat,
and enough time for what really mattered.

Like the manna in the desert,
it came this morning, and it was enough.
It won't keep until next week.
It doesn't need to.

I trust You for tomorrow's portion too.
So I won't lie awake counting what I don't have.
I'll thank You for what I had.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the end of a day when you got less done than you meant to, or when you are tempted to lie awake counting what is missing. Say it slowly, and let the last two lines be the end of your day.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Give us this day our daily bread." — Matthew 6:11 (KJV)
