An Evening Prayer of Thanks for Laughter

God of all joy, thank You for laughter.
You didn't have to give us this gift,
but You did, and it keeps us going.

Thank You for the laugh that took me by surprise,
for the old joke that still works,
for a child's giggle from the next room,
for friends who laugh at the same stories every time.

Thank You for laughter that eases a hard day,
that breaks the silence after a quarrel,
that turns up even on the saddest days.

If today was short on laughter,
thank You for all the laughter I remember.
And if someone near me has forgotten how,
let me help them find it again.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the evening, and let yourself smile at the memories as they come. It is a lovely prayer after a happy visit with family or friends. If the day was a heavy one, it can still help to remember one good laugh.
