An Evening Prayer of Praise as the Light Fades

Praise the Lord, O my soul,
as the light goes out of the sky.

You were God when the sun came up,
and You are God now it is going down.
Nothing that happened today
moved You from Your throne.

You hold the stars in their places.
You know the number of hairs on my head.
You are holy, and You are kind.
You are mighty, and You are near.

I praise You tonight, not for what You gave,
but for who You are.
Your love by day, Your song by night,
the same at both ends of the day.

Let my last words before sleep be praise.
Glory to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
both now and forevermore.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at sunset, or when you turn on the lamps in the evening. There are no requests in it, so it suits a day when you simply want to honor God. Let it be the last thing you say before sleep.

A Verse to Hold On To

"O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty." — Psalm 104:1 (BSB)
