An Evening Prayer for the Beauty I Noticed Today
Creator God, You didn't have to make it beautiful.
You could have made a world that only worked.
Instead You gave it color and song.Thank You for the beauty I noticed today,
and the beauty I walked right past:
the sky going pink at the edges,
a bird on the fence,
rain running down the window,
a flower someone planted years ago.Thank You for faces, too,
the young ones smooth, the old ones creased with smiling.
Thank You for music and kind hands,
and the smell of supper on the stove.Tonight I stop and say it:
all of it was lovely, and all of it was Yours.
Open my eyes again tomorrow
to the beauty You keep putting in my path.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the window at dusk, or on the porch as the light goes. Between the lines, stop and name the lovely things you actually saw today, and any you only now remember passing by. It is a gentle prayer to share with a grandchild at bedtime.
A Verse to Hold On To
"He has made everything beautiful in its time." — Ecclesiastes 3:11 (BSB)
