A Night Prayer to Bless the Lord Before Sleep (Psalm 134)
Come, my soul, and bless the Lord before you sleep.
The last of the pilgrim songs
calls to those who served by night in Your house,
keeping watch while the city slept:
Lift up your hands, and bless the Lord.So I lift up my hands tonight, and bless You.
For the day You gave me.
For every mercy in it, small or large.
For being the same God at midnight
that You were at noon.I join everyone who praises You in the night —
monks and nurses, mothers and watchmen,
the sleepless and the faithful,
in every time zone on earth. And as that old song ends with a blessing,
let Your blessing rest on me.
May the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth,
bless me and keep me through this night. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this last thing at night, sitting or standing, with your hands open or lifted if that is comfortable for you. It is a fine prayer for anyone awake at odd hours, such as nurses, night workers and the sleepless.
A Verse to Hold On To
"May the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth, bless you from Zion." — Psalm 134:3 (BSB)
