A Night Prayer for Waiting on God Like a Watchman (Psalm 130)
Out of the depths I call to You tonight.
Lord, hear my voice. If You kept a list of every wrong I've done,
I could not stand before You.
None of us could.
But with You there is forgiveness.
So I bring You today's failures plainly, without excuses.
Wash them away before I sleep. Then teach me to wait for You
the way a watchman waits for the morning.
All night he stands on the city wall,
stamping his feet against the cold,
looking east for the first gray light.
He cannot make the sun come up.
He only knows that it will.I'm waiting too, Lord —
for answers, for healing,
for things to change that haven't changed yet.
I can't hurry the morning.
But I can hope in Your word,
and wait, and watch, and trust You.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at night when you are carrying something you did wrong, or something you are still waiting on. It suits a long wait for news from a doctor, from family, or for an answer you can't hurry.
A Verse to Hold On To
"My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning." — Psalm 130:6 (BSB)
