An Evening Prayer Retracing the Day With God
Lord, come and sit with me a while.
Before I put this day away,
walk me back through it.Take me back to this morning,
to the first thing I thought when I woke.
Take me through the middle of the day,
the rooms I stood in, the roads I took,
the faces I saw, the voices I heard.
Take me through the long afternoon
and the slow hour before supper.Where You were close, let me see it now.
Where I went my own way, let me own it.
Where something good happened, let me thank You for it.Then bring me back to here and now,
to this quiet place at the end of it all.
You searched out every step I took today,
and You were there in each one.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this slowly, with a pause between each part, so the day can come back to you. Sit in a quiet chair or lie in bed, and give each stretch of the day a few moments before you go on.
A Verse to Hold On To
"You search out my path and my lying down; You are aware of all my ways." — Psalm 139:3 (BSB)
