An Evening Prayer for What Today Taught Me

Teacher of my heart,
what were You showing me today?

Was it patience, in the long wait?
Was it that I am not in charge,
when the plans changed without asking me?
Was it that a kind word goes further
than a clever one?

Maybe it was something about myself
I would rather not have seen.
Maybe it was something about You
that I had somehow forgotten.

I'm a slow learner, Lord.
You've taught me some things a hundred times.
Thank You for not giving up on me.

Tonight, as I lie still,
speak to my heart the way You do,
quietly, and without shame.
Let me wake up a little wiser,
and a little more Yours.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this once the day's work is done, when you want to look back and ask what it was about. The quiet minutes in bed before sleep suit it well.

A Verse to Hold On To

"I will bless the LORD who counsels me; even at night my conscience instructs me." — Psalm 16:7 (BSB)
