An Evening Prayer for the Weary and Worn Out

Jesus, You said, Come to Me, all you who are weary.
So I'm coming, tired as I am.

I'm tired in my body.
My feet ache, my back aches,
and my eyes have been heavy since supper.

I'm tired in my heart too.
Tired of carrying the same worries.
Tired of trying so hard and getting so little done.
Tired of holding everything together.

You didn't say, Come when you've sorted yourself out.
You didn't say, Come when you're stronger.
You said, Come, and I will give you rest.

So here I am.
Take the yoke I've been dragging on my own,
and give me Yours, the one that fits.
Teach me how You carry things:
gently, humbly, one step at a time.

Let me rest in You tonight.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you sit down at the end of a long day with nothing left to give. Read it slowly, in your chair or in bed, and let the words carry you.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
