An Evening Prayer for the People I Met Today

Jesus, You never looked past anyone.
Tonight I bring You the people I met today.

Some I saw face to face.
Some I only heard on the phone,
or passed with a nod in the street.

The one who served me at the counter.
The neighbor I chatted with at the gate.
The one who was short with me,
and the one I hardly noticed at all.

I don't know what they carried home tonight,
the worry, the bill, the empty chair.
But You know, so meet them there.

Bless the kind ones for their kindness.
Soften the hard ones, and soften me toward them.
And if I met an angel today without knowing,
thank You for letting me stand so close.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
