An Evening Prayer for the Moments I Missed God Today
Here I am at the end of the day, Lord,
only now looking for You.Perhaps You were in the morning light on the wall,
while I was busy thinking about bills.
Perhaps You were in the voice of a friend,
while I kept one eye on the clock.
Perhaps You were in the quiet after lunch,
and I filled it up with noise.Like Jacob waking from his dream, I say it late:
You were in this place, and I did not know it.I'm not sorry You were there.
I'm only sorry I hurried past.Open my eyes a little sooner tomorrow.
Let me catch You at work while it's happening,
and thank You on the spot.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the end of a hurried day, when you realize you hardly gave God a thought. Sit quietly for a minute before you begin, and let a few moments from your day come to mind as you read.
A Verse to Hold On To
"Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not." — Genesis 28:16 (KJV)
