An Evening Prayer for the Day's Comings and Goings (Psalm 121)

Whether I went far today, Lord,
or hardly left the house,
You watched over all my comings and goings.

The trip to the shops or the doctor's office.
The walk to the mailbox and back.
The visitors who came, and the ones who left.
The thoughts that wandered off and came home again.
You never took Your eyes off any of it.

Now the coming and going is over.
The door is shut. The coat is on its hook.
Thank You for every safe arrival today,
for me and for the people I love.
Whoever is still out tonight, bring them home safely.
And for anyone who has no home to come to,
be their keeper in the dark.

You kept me by day.
Keep me now by night.
Watch over my going out and my coming in,
both now and forevermore.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you come home at the end of the day and the door is shut behind you. It is a kind one to pray when someone you love is still out on the road.
