An Evening Prayer for Peace Within These Walls (Psalm 122)

I was glad when they said to me,
Let us go to the house of the Lord.
Your people sang that on the road to Jerusalem,
and I sing it with them tonight.
Thank You for every place where Your people gather,
and for everyone I have worshiped beside.

Tonight I pray peace within these walls,
the walls of the home where I lay my head.
Let no anger sleep here tonight.
Let peace fill every room.

I pray peace within the walls of Your church,
for its tired leaders and its quiet faithful.
I pray peace for my town,
for its streets and homes and hospitals tonight.
And as Your people always have,
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem,
and for all who live there.

For the sake of my family and friends,
I say it over each of them by name:
Peace be within you.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this in the evening as you move through your house turning off the lights. It is a good prayer after a quarrel, and a good one to pray over each person in your family by name.
