An Evening Prayer for Letting Go of Today's Disappointments
God of new mornings,
not everything went the way I hoped today. Some things fell flat.
Someone let me down, or I let them down.
I disappointed myself more than once.
And a prayer I've been praying for a long time
still has no answer that I can see.I don't want to pretend I'm fine.
You see the disappointment anyway,
and You don't need me to dress it up.But I don't want to sleep with it either.
So I give it to You —
the small letdowns and the big ones,
the hopes that didn't happen,
the people who couldn't be what I needed.Your mercies don't run out at the end of a bad day.
They are new every morning.
There will be fresh ones tomorrow,
waiting for me before I even wake.Until then, hold my heart gently.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the end of a day that let you down, whether the letdown was large or small. Pray it before you turn out the light, so you don't take the day to bed with you.
A Verse to Hold On To
"It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
