An Evening Prayer for an Unremarkable Day
Nothing much happened today, Lord.
No news. No crisis. No great joy.
Just a day, the way most days are.The bed got made and the cups got washed.
A bill was paid, a call was answered.
The small things that keep a life going got done.
No one will remember them,
but You saw every one.Thank You for all the people
who were quietly faithful today:
the driver who kept the bus on time,
the ones who cleaned and cooked and stocked the shelves,
the ones who kept on praying. Most of life is made of days like this.
Don't let me despise them.
Teach me to be faithful in small things,
because that is where most of my life is lived,
and You are there in it with me.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this on a day when nothing much happened and you wonder whether it counted. It is a good prayer for the end of a quiet day at home.
A Verse to Hold On To
"For who hath despised the day of small things?" — Zechariah 4:10 (KJV)
