An Evening Prayer for a Tired Body

Maker of my body, it's tired tonight.

Thank You for all it did today.
These feet that took me where I needed to go.
These hands that cooked and carried and held on.
This heart that kept on beating without my asking.

It doesn't always do what I ask of it.
Some parts ache, and some don't work as they should.
I am tempted to be cross with it.
But You made it, and You know its limits.
You remember that I am dust,
and You are not disappointed in me for being tired.

So let me treat this body kindly tonight.
Let me lay it down in a warm bed
and let it rest without guilt.
Tiredness is not a failure.
It reminds me that I am a creature,
and that I need You.

Restore what can be restored while I sleep,
and carry what this body cannot.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you sit down at last with aching feet, or as you get into bed. It is for any evening when your body, or its limits, has frustrated you.

A Verse to Hold On To
