An Evening Prayer Asking Jesus to Stay With Me

Stay with me, Lord Jesus.
It is nearly evening, and the day is almost over.

Two of Your friends said that once,
at the end of the worst week of their lives.
They had walked for hours with a stranger,
pouring out their disappointment.
They didn't know it was You.
But their hearts burned as You talked with them,
so when evening came, they begged You to stay.

I'm asking the same thing tonight.
Some days I don't recognize You either.
You walk beside me,
and I'm too sad or too busy to notice.
But looking back, I can see You were there.

Come in, Lord. Sit at my table.
Be known to me in this ordinary evening,
the way You were known to them in the breaking of bread.
Stay with me through the night.
Don't let me fall asleep without You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this at the end of the day, at the supper table or in your chair once the house is quiet. It suits a lonely evening, or one when the day has not gone well.

A Verse to Hold On To
