A Prayer for Everyone Who Can't Sleep Tonight

Merciful God, as I settle down to sleep,
I remember the people who won't sleep tonight.

The one lying awake beside an empty half of the bed.
The parent walking the floor with a feverish child.
The one in pain, waiting for the next dose.
The one waiting for a phone call that may not come.

The worried and the frightened.
The ones in hospital corridors and waiting rooms.
The ones with no safe place to lay their heads.
The ones afraid of someone in their own home.
The ones in places of war, listening for sirens.

I don't know their names, but You do.
You know exactly where each one is lying awake.
Be near to every one of them.
Give them comfort in the dark,
help when they call to You,
and rest, even if sleep won't come.

And if I lie awake tonight myself,
let me spend the time praying for them.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you turn out the light, and most of all if you are the one lying awake. Say it slowly, pausing after each line to picture someone you know. If sleep won't come, let the praying fill the quiet hours.

A Verse to Hold On To

"The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call out to Him in truth." — Psalm 145:18 (BSB)
