A Bedtime Prayer for Trusting God With the Night

In a few minutes I will close my eyes, Lord.
It is the most trusting thing I do all day.

I will stop watching, stop planning, stop holding on.
For hours I will be no use to anyone.

You made me this way on purpose.
Every night You teach me again
that the world does not rest on my shoulders.
It rests in Your hands.

So I let go of the day the way a child does,
sure that Someone bigger is awake.

Keep me while I sleep.
And in the morning, let me wake up knowing
it was You who held me all night long.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this once you are in bed, just before you close your eyes. It is a good one for nights when you find it hard to stop keeping watch over everything.
