A Bedtime Prayer for Turning Out the Last Light

Father of lights, my hand is on the switch.
In a moment the room will go dark.

Before it does, I want to say it plainly:
the dark does not frighten You.
There is no darkness in You at all.
You see this room as clearly with the lamp off
as I do with it on.

So I am not really going into the dark.
I am going to sleep in Your light,
the light that is never switched off.

Now I turn out the lamp.
Goodnight, Lord. I'm in Your keeping.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this with your hand on the lamp switch, and turn out the light on the last line. It is short enough to say every night, and it can be a comfort to anyone who feels uneasy in the dark.
