A Night Prayer to the God Who Never Sleeps

Lord, You never close Your eyes.
I find that hard to imagine.
By this time of night, mine are closing on their own.

All day I have kept watch over my small corner —
the stove, the bills, the people, the plans.
Now I hand the watch over to You.
I was never meant to keep it all night.

You don't get tired.
You don't doze off in the chair.
You don't miss the moment someone needs You.

So watch over this house tonight.
Watch over the ones I love in other houses,
and everyone who is awake and afraid.

I'm going to sleep now, Lord.
Thank You for staying up.

When to Pray This

Pray this in bed, after you have checked the doors and put out the lights. It is a good prayer for a night when you are worried about someone far away, or when you are awake and afraid.
