A Prayer for the Feast of the Transfiguration

Lord Jesus, You took Your friends up a high mountain,
and there they saw You as You are.
Your face shone like the sun.
Your clothes became as white as light.

Peter did not know what to say,
so he offered to build shelters.
I understand him.
When glory comes near, I want to hold on to it.

Then a cloud covered them,
and the Father said, This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him.

Lord, let me listen to You today.
And when I come down the mountain
into the plain work of an ordinary day,
let the light I glimpsed go with me.
You were the same Jesus in the valley
as You were on the height.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration. It also helps after a mountaintop moment, a retreat or a deep Sunday, when it's time to go back to ordinary days.

A Verse to Hold On To

"And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him." — Mark 9:7 (KJV)
