A Prayer for Christ the King Sunday
Lord Jesus, King of kings,
today the church year ends where all things end:
with You on the throne.Your crown was made of thorns.
Your throne was a cross.
You ruled by washing feet
and laying down Your life. The kingdoms of this world rise and fall.
Headlines shout, and leaders come and go.
But Your kingdom does not shake.Reign in me, Lord.
In my choices and my spending,
my words and my worries.
Where I have set up a small kingdom of my own,
gently take it back.Let Your kingdom come,
and Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this on Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday before Advent, when many churches close the church year. It is a steadying prayer whenever the news makes the world feel out of control.
A Verse to Hold On To
"The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever." — Revelation 11:15 (KJV)
