A Morning Prayer for a Contented Heart
I have enough this morning, Father.
Let me say it out loud, and believe it.I have a place to wake up.
I have breath, and a little strength,
and people I love, near or far.
I have You, and that is more than all the rest.Still, my heart keeps reaching for more.
More money, more room, more time,
a life that looks like someone else's.
Forgive me for the restless wanting
that steals the good from what is here.Paul said he had to learn contentment.
Then I can learn it too.
Teach me today, one ordinary hour at a time,
to be thankful for my own life
and not to measure it against another. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this when you wake up already wanting something you don't have, or after you catch yourself comparing your life with someone else's. It is a good one to say at the kitchen window while the kettle heats.
A Verse to Hold On To
"I have learned to be content regardless of my circumstances." — Philippians 4:11 (BSB)
