An Evening Prayer for the Peace Jesus Gives

Lord Jesus, You spoke about peace
on the hardest night of Your life.

You knew what was coming.
One friend would betray You.
Another would swear he never knew You.
The cross was only hours away.
And still You said, My peace I give to you.

So Your peace must be different from mine.
Mine depends on everything going right.
It needs the bills paid and the test results clear,
and everyone in the family getting along.
Mine runs out quickly.

Yours doesn't depend on any of that.
It comes from You,
and You are the same tonight as You were then.

That is the peace I need tonight.
Not the world's peace, which comes and goes,
but Yours, given and not earned.
Let it settle my troubled heart.
Let it quiet every fear.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when your heart is troubled and everything seems to depend on how things turn out. Pray it slowly in the evening, by a lamp or at the bedside, and stay quiet for a minute after the last line.
