An Evening Prayer for Peace That Falls Like Dew (Psalm 133)

How good and pleasant it is, Lord,
when people who belong together live in harmony.
I have tasted that goodness,
and I have known what it's like without it.

Tonight I think of the people I'm at odds with.
The coolness between me and someone I love.
The quarrel that never quite got settled.
The friend who drifted away and never said why.

I can't fix all of it tonight.
Some of it isn't mine to fix.
But I can bring it to You.

Your psalm says harmony is like the dew on the mountains.
Dew comes quietly, in the night,
while everyone is asleep.
No one sees it fall,
but in the morning the whole hillside shines.

Let peace come like that, Lord.
Quietly, overnight, where I can't see it working.
Soften hard hearts, starting with mine.
And show me in the morning
one small step I can take toward peace.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a night when you are thinking of someone you have grown distant from, or after a quarrel that was never settled. Say it before bed, and leave the matter with God until morning.

A Verse to Hold On To

"It is like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. For there the LORD has bestowed the blessing of life forevermore." — Psalm 133:3 (BSB)
