An Evening Prayer for Emptying My Pockets of Worry
Father, every night I empty my pockets onto the dresser —
keys, a few coins, a crumpled receipt.
Tonight I want to empty my heart the same way,
one thing at a time, onto Your table. Here is the worry about money.
I set it down.
Here is someone I love who is struggling.
I place them in Your care.
Here is the decision I don't know how to make.
Here is the thing I said that I wish I hadn't.
Here is the fear I haven't told anyone about. You see them all laid out in front of You.
None of them is too small for You to notice,
and none of them is too big for You to hold.I am not throwing them away.
I am handing them to You,
and You keep things better than I do.
Let them stay on Your table tonight,
and let me go to bed with empty pockets. In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the end of the day, perhaps just as you empty your own pockets or lay out your clothes for the morning. Pause at each worry and name your own in its place, one at a time.
A Verse to Hold On To
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." — Philippians 4:6 (BSB)
