This Is the Day — A Prayer From Psalm 118

This is the day You have made, Lord.
Not yesterday, and not some better day to come.
This one, with its weather and its errands
and whatever it holds that I can't yet see.

I will rejoice in it.
Not because everything in it will be easy,
but because You made it,
and Your love endures forever.

When I called to You in trouble before,
You answered and set me free.
You are on my side.
I will not be afraid of what this day brings.

Open the gates of this new day,
and I'll walk through them giving thanks.
This is Your day,
and I'm glad to be in it with You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this first thing in the morning, even on an ordinary or heavy day when you don't feel much like rejoicing. Say it out loud if you can, and let it be a choice you make rather than a feeling you wait for.

A Verse to Hold On To
