The Wings of the Morning — A Prayer From Psalm 139

You saw me get up this morning, Lord.
You know when I sit and when I rise,
and every thought before I think it.

Wherever I go today,
You are already there.
If I take the wings of the morning
and fly as far as the sea goes,
Your hand will still be leading me.

Maybe I'll go no farther than my own kitchen.
Maybe I'll be in a waiting room,
or on a road I've never driven.
It makes no difference to Your hand.
It reaches every place I could be.

And if this day turns dark,
even the dark is not dark to You.

So I'll go out, or stay in,
held by You, who never let me out of Your sight.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this before you leave the house, especially if the day will take you somewhere unfamiliar, such as a hospital, a waiting room or a long drive. It is just as good for a day you will spend at home on your own.

A Verse to Hold On To

"If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." — Psalm 139:9–10 (KJV)
