My Soul Thirsts for You — A Prayer From Psalm 63

O God, You are my God.
Early in the morning I am looking for You.

David prayed this in a dry wilderness,
with no water and no easy way home.
He remembered seeing Your glory in the sanctuary,
and he longed to see it again.

I remember times like that too,
when You felt so near I could almost touch You.
I'm thirsty for that nearness this morning.

Your love is better than life itself,
so my lips will praise You
for as long as I have breath.

In the night I remembered You.
In the shadow of Your wings I can rest.
Now, as the day begins,
I hold on to You,
and Your right hand holds on to me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this on a morning when God feels far away and your heart is dry. Say it slowly by a window, before the noise of the day begins.

A Verse to Hold On To
