A Morning Prayer in the Quiet Before Dawn

It's still dark, Lord, and everything is quiet.
Even the birds haven't started yet.

Maybe I woke on purpose.
Maybe I just couldn't sleep.
Either way, I'm glad of this time with You.

Jesus got up while it was still dark
to find a quiet place and pray.
If He needed these hours with You,
how much more do I need them.

So I sit here with the kettle on
and nothing yet asking for my attention.
No phone calls, no errands, no noise.
Just You, and me, and the slow light coming.

Fill me now, before the day begins to pull at me.
Let what happens in this quiet
carry me through all the busy hours ahead.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you wake before the sun, whether you meant to or not. Sit with a cup of tea in the dark, read it slowly, and then stay quiet for a while.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went out to a solitary place to pray." — Mark 1:35 (BSB)
