A Morning Prayer for Joy in Small Things

Jesus, Your first miracle was at a wedding,
keeping a celebration from running dry.
You care about gladness, and I forget that.

I have been so serious lately,
carrying everything and enjoying very little.
This morning, give me back some joy.

Let me taste my breakfast.
Let me laugh at something, and mean it.
Let me notice the first warm sun on my hands,
a favorite song, a friend's voice on the phone,
all the small good things You scatter through a day.

And let the deepest joy be this:
You are with me,
and nothing today can change that.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this when you have been serious and heavy for a while and want to enjoy your days again. Say it over breakfast, and then watch for one small good thing to thank God for before the day is over.
