A Morning Prayer Before I Pick Up My Phone

Father, my phone is right there within reach,
already full of things that want me.
The messages, the reminders, the headlines,
the pictures of other people's lives.

Before I reach for it, I reach for You.

Let the first voice I hear today be Yours,
not the loudest one on a screen.
Settle my mind before the world fills it.
Remind me who I am
before anyone else tries to tell me.

When I do pick it up, help me use it well.
Let me answer what needs answering,
pray for the names that need praying for,
and put it down when it starts to steal my peace.

My attention is one of Your gifts to me.
This morning, I want You to have the first of it.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray this with your phone still on the nightstand, before you look at a single message. You can pray it again whenever you notice yourself scrolling without meaning to.

A Verse to Hold On To

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." — Colossians 3:2 (BSB)
