Lead Us Not Into Temptation — A Morning Prayer
Lead me today, Lord,
and keep me away from what would pull me under. You know my weak places better than I do.
The words I say when I'm tired.
The habits I fall back on when I'm lonely.
The small dishonesty that seems harmless.
The bitterness I keep warm because it feels good.I don't want to walk toward those things today.
Steer my steps another way.
And when temptation comes anyway,
show me the way out,
and give me the sense to take it quickly.Jesus, You were tempted in every way, as I am,
and You did not give in.
Stand beside me in those moments.
Your strength is enough where mine runs out.In Jesus' name, Amen.
When to Pray This
Pray this at the start of a day when you know your weak spots may be tested, such as when you are tired, lonely or short-tempered. Say it quietly in the morning, and again when temptation comes.
A Verse to Hold On To
"And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it." — 1 Corinthians 10:13 (BSB)
